Specific Expertise

Our expertise is in airports:  Planning, feasibility studies, and design; more specifically, we are well known for airfield electrical and navigational aids installation design.  We bring the following added value to each project:

  • In-depth knowledge of the FAA regulatory requirements and the applicable Advisory Circulars and Orders.
  • Excellent working relationships with the FAA Headquarters electrical staff, ADO staffs, and ATO Service Area personnel.
  • Continual communication with the airfield lighting/equipment manufacturers, keeping up with presently approved, soon-to-be-approved, and coming-in-the-future equipment. Our involvement with the Illuminating Engineering Society’s Airfield Lighting Committee (IES ALC) also connects us with the equipment manufacturers, airfield electricians, electrical contractors, and fellow airfield consultants.
  • Design that emphasizes ease of maintenance, safety, system durability, and sustainability.
  • Licensed/Registered Professional Engineers in 26 states.

AAI transitioned from an original dedication of airfield electrical and navigational aids related construction and design/build to a focus (since January 1990) on airport consulting services for all sizes and kinds of airports.  Electrical projects include runway and taxiway lighting systems from the simplest to the most current complex ones; distance remaining signs; signage; electrical vaults (new, expansions, and rehabilitations); ILS navigational aids (NAVAIDS); all visual NAVIADS; airfield lighting control and monitoring systems (ALCMS); apron floodlighting; and compliance with surface movement guidance control systems (SMGCS).  In addition to specializing in airfield electrical and navigational aids (NAVAIDS) installation design, AAI provides electrical facility assessments and airport planning.
